MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Local leaders are taking aim at the opioid epidemic. Doctors are revealing alarming numbers on the crisis in Tennessee.
At Tuesday’s West Tennessee Opioid Summit, medical experts joined Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings and business leaders to talk challenges and solutions.
“It’s such a huge problem that we’re still growing the attention on trying to reverse what it’s doing in our communities. The fact is over 1000 Tennesseans lost their lives to opioids last year and that’s more than died in motor vehicle accidents,” says Jim Lancaster, MD, Signa Sr. Medical Director.
This is one of many efforts to cut down on the misuse and illegal distribution of prescription drugs.
