Husband, driver charged after woman dies in hit and run crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A woman is dead, and two people are charged after a domestic incident turned into a hit and run crash in Orange Mound.

The crash happened Sunday morning near the corner of Park Avenue and Airways.

 A witness told police that Jasmine Robinson was running from her husband when he caught up to her and punched her in the back of the head. He tried to help her before leaving Robinson in the roadway.

Later, a vehicle hit Robinson in the street before driving off. She died on the scene.

MPD have identified her husband as 48-year-old Johnny Crawford and the driver as 59-year-old Laura Turner-Burton.

Crawford was charged with second-degree murder and aggravated domestic assault.

Burton was charged with leaving the scene of accident involving death.

An affidavit showed that Robinson called the police about 10 minutes before her death and said Crawford had been beating her for two days. The phone hung up before they got her information.
