MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A Mid-South school is working to make sure its students do not go hungry on weekends.

Hanley Elementary has teamed up with the Mid-South Food Bank and CIGNA to provide boxes filled with food for its students in the Orange Mound community.

Hanley Elementary is part of the Aspire Charter School.

School officials say the need for food is huge, and it feels good to give back to the community it serves.

“Hanley has a rich history, and Orange Mound has rich history of meeting the needs of the community members. So, this is of the community, by the community. It’s just a feel good feeling to be able to do that and support folks in some way,” says Nickalous Manning, Aspire Public Schools.

Each weekend 50 students will receive the special care packages of food.
