Memphis firefighters respond to one of their own buildings

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localememphis.com) – The Memphis Fire Department responded to one of its own buildings Thursday morning.

According the MFD, the call came in at 7:15 a.m. to 79 Flicker, after smoke was seen coming from a vent. The fire started on the first floor of the Fire/Police Communications facility in the radio maintenance section.

Lt. Wayne Cooke, the Memphis Fire Dept. spokesperson, tells Local 24 News, the fire is not related to the newly renovated Memphis Fire Communications Center which was unveiled Wednesday.

Four employees were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The extent of the damage is unknown at this time, but, Lt. Cooke says it will not impact MFD/MPD service.
