Memphis police investigating after body found in pond behind Raleigh retirement community

Memphis police and fire are investigating a body found in a pond behind a retirement home in Raleigh.

MPD and MFD responded to 2779 Battlecreek just after 8 a.m. Friday to a report of a person face down in the pond.

The pond is behind Wesley Stage Park, an apartment community for seniors.

MPD confirms, the body of a man was found, but, the cause of death is unknown at this time.

Residents of the retirement community tell Local 24 Reporter Jalyn Souchek, the pond is very steep, isn’t a place where residents go walking, but, it is a popular fishing spot for others who live nearby.

Officials with Wesley Stage Park say all residents are accounted for.

This is an ongoing investigation.
