WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI (WISN/CNN) — For a Wisconsin woman, what should have been a routine trip to the store turned out to be anything but that.

The mother of two has the bruises to show for it. It was caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows mother Cori Richardson leaving the New Berlin Walmart Friday.

As she headed to her car with her baby boy and her 9-year-old daughter, another shopper put his empty cart behind her car, “and I yelled to him, ‘can you please put your cart away?’ And he said ‘no, there’s people that they pay to do that.’ So I was like, ‘well, just don’t leave it behind my car please.’ And he literally just came charging right at me full force.”

Richardson says he brutally attacked her, “he threw me to the ground, was throwing punches and kicks. He let me up. At that point I realized he had my keys. So, I asked him for my keys back and came at him.”

Police arrested 60-year-old John Engebos of Wauwatosa.

“And then he attacked me again. But this time grabbing my hair. And threw me to the ground and kind of dragged me. So I’m kind of scraped up on this side,” said Richardson. Remember Richardson’s 8-week-old son Oliver is still in the carrier on that shopping cart, “and he went and pushed it farther into the parking lot.”

Other shoppers came to help her, and called 9-1-1. “One of the witnesses stood behind his car to try to get him to stop. So, he couldn’t leave. He then hit her with his car,” said Richardson, “I’ve been a wreck. I’m not going to lie. I’ve teared up quite a few times just thinking about it. I’m just really grateful that my kids are okay.”

Engebos faces charges of felony reckless endangerment, battery, and disorderly conduct. He could get more than 10 years in prison if convicted. He’s been released on bond and is due back in court August 7th.
