SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – A Southaven Walmart reopened Thursday over a week after two managers, Brandon Gales and Anthony Brown, were shot to death.

The only parts of the store that are currently open are the market and pharmacy. The other half of the store is still closed off with yellow caution tape.

Customers said it “feels good” to have this store back open after the tragedy July 30. Auston DeVolpi said he visits this Walmart location every week to grocery shop. He was grateful it was back open.

“It was definitely different walking in and seeing some of the store closed off, and the part I usually go to is closed off,” DeVolpi said. “So it kind of threw me for a loop, but I’m glad that we’re back.”

Another frequent customer, Tina Williams, said she likes this Walmart because the employees are always kind. She said the tragedy that happened here left her heartbroken.

“I was really hurt because they are like a close knit family,” Williams said. “When you go in they’re always friendly and working together.”

DeVolpi said it felt different while he shopped Thursday, but he wasn’t worried to visit this location.

“Because you got to move forward in life or else you’re going to keep looking back,” DeVolpi said. “We just got to try to do better.”

Williams was happy to be back to shopping at this location. She said she admires the kindness the employees showed even after the tragedy they experienced.

“They are walking around being very friendly and welcome, and I let them know I was glad they are back up and open because I do miss shopping here,” Williams said.

The funeral for Anthony Brown is Friday, and the funeral for Brandon Gales is Saturday.

The alleged shooter, Martez Abram, is scheduled to be in court Friday morning.
