School lockdown at Riverdale lifted


GERMANTOWN, Tenn. ( – UPDATE 9:00 a.m. – From GMSD: The lockdown at Riverdale has been lifted and classes are resuming normally.  Thank you for your patience and flexibility this morning.  Student safety is our top priority.


UPDATE 8:30 a.m. – Germantown police say, at approximately 3:50 a.m. officers saw a man in the area of Howard McVay Park wearing a mask and gloves.  When officers approached him, he ran.

Officers found a stolen vehicle parked on McVay Manor Cove and detained a woman who was inside.

The suspect who ran from officers was taken into custody around 6:30 a.m. near Poplar Pike and Burfodi.

A third suspect was seen on home video in the area, but, has not been found yet.  He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, white shirt, and carrying a light-colored backpack.

Germantown Municipal Schools were notified out of an abundance of caution.

Charges are pending.

This is an ongoing investigation.


UPDATE 8am: Riverdale will be accepting students via all modes of transportation now, according to GMSD Tweet:


Riverdale Elementary and Middle is on lockdown due to police activity in the area.

Walkers are being rushed into the building. Car riders will not be allowed to be dropped off until the lockdown is lifted. Parents are being advised to keep children home until notified.

According to Germantown Municipal School District, police are pursuing two suspects in the area of Howard and McVay.

No tardies will be issued for any GMSD school today.
