MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Thursday morning, hundreds of patriotic residents gathered to celebrate the 70th Annual High Point Terrace Neighborhood Independence Day Parade.
Both Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland were on hand to share a few words and get the crowd pumped up before the annual parade kicked off at 9:00 a.m.
One very special guest, former resident Jan Green, was on hand to take in the parade and revisit the neighborhood she grew up in. Green was only 3-years-old when she attended the very first High Point Terrace parade 70 years ago.
“I met the owner of our first house here and they let me go in and tour it and it’s just brought back all kinds of memories today,” says Green.
The annual High Point Terrace Neighborhood Independence Day Parade is one of the longest-running parades in the city of Memphis.
