MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Babalu’s in Overton Square had a special chef in the kitchen Wednesday. 6-year-old leukemia survivor Asher Honsell and his family were selected for Babalu’s Taco Shop’s fundraiser this year.
Asher created a custom taco for the day that was featured on the menu with a portion of the proceeds from taco sales going directly to the Honshell family. The Honshell family were nominated for the special event having had to battle cancer not once but twice.
Asher’s father, Jacob, is also a cancer survivor and currently in remission. Asher’s mom, Ginger, says the support for her family has been overwhelming.
“We’ve seen support from people we’ve never even met, and it is literally one of those most incredible things in the world. It really like keeps your hope for humanity up I think,“ says Honshell.
The event lasts until close of business at 10 pm Wednesday evening. A dollar from the sale of any taco June 12th goes to the Honshell family.
