WEB EXTRA: Just Ballin’ with JB – Sports & TV vs. being social

Web Extras

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Last Saturday night I got home from work and told my fiancé, “We should really go out. Be social.” Instead, we got drunk on Pac-12 football; staring blurry-eyed at our TV until 2:00 a.m.

There is no place for a social life when a quarterback throws nine touchdowns and still loses.

This is my main problem with going out, especially in the fall: I’d rather watch a game, and I’d rather watch it on my couch with a White Claw.

My other main problem with going out is that I love television. I love television a lot. I almost love television more than I love sports.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards were also this weekend. I see the Emmy’s as a nice, annual “pat-on-the-back” telling me, “Good job, Jess! The hours you wasted binging TV were all worth it because you watch shows that are award-worthy.

So, I’m using this week’s blog to power-rank my favorite TV shows of 2019.

  • 1. Fosse/Verdon (This is probably not #1 on anyone’s list except mine, but it’s my list and I can do what I want.)
  • 2. Unbelievable
  • 3. When They See Us
  • 4. Big Little Lies
  • 5. Chernobyl
  • 6. The Righteous Gemstones
  • 7. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  • 8.  Schitt’s Creek
  • 9.  Barry
  • 10. The Washington State/UCLA game referred to earlier in this blog post
