MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Ja Morant dunked on a FedExForum basket wearing a Grizzlies uniform for the first time.

The University of Memphis football team scored 14 points in 20 seconds to put away Louisiana-Monroe, improved to 5-0 and came out of the weekend ranked in both the AP and Coaches Polls.

Tigers basketball hosted 70 NBA scouts because Penny Hardaway doesn’t just want to win a National Championship, he wants to prove Memphis is a place that gets you to the next level.

All good. All great. All very positive sports things happening in the city of Memphis this past week.

But the team who deserves the most accolades in October of 2019, is a team no one is talking about.

The University of Memphis women’s soccer team.

They’re ranked 8th in the country. They’ve won 10 straight games. They’ve shutout 10 teams this season.

Can you tell me where the women’s soccer team finished last season?

They won the AAC tournament. They advanced to the NCAA tournament. They lost in the first round.

After a fair amount of turnover, the Tigers have messed around and are 12-1 this season. Their only loss was in the final minutes to an 18th-ranked Kansas team.

As one of two women covering sports full-time in Memphis, I don’t feel like we should bare all the responsibility of carrying the torch of women’s sports coverage in this city.

But from here on out I’m not whispering, I’m shouting out loud: Right now, the Memphis women’s soccer team is the most dominant team in this city.
