Candidate must have prior news or equivalent programming producing experience. Must be a strong writer with excellent organizational skills who can complete tasks on deadline while planning programs far in advance.

Duties include but are not limited to: booking guests for future segments, producing theme segments and promotional spots, putting together a rundown, writing stories and teases, and timing the show.  Works closely with sales department, host and Executive Producer on planning future broadcasts and special events.

MASTER CONTROL OPERATOR

The Master Control Operator is a full-time position which requires early morning, evening, overnight, and weekend hours as well as holidays.  The ideal candidate will have one-year experience in the broadcast industry and/or experience in information technology.  Training maybe considered for a candidate with less experience who possesses strong computer and technology skills.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:      

  1. Monitors strength, clarity and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjusts equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts.
  2. Completes station sweeps, closed captioning verification, discrepancy reporting, and other paperwork and reports as required by department management.
  3. Maintains programming logs as required by station management.
  4. Records/downloads video content to the servers, qualify checks and segments it prior to air.
  5. Processes traffic logs and appends them to playlist and paperless log program.
  6. Operates Master Control software and equipment as directed.
  7. Reports technical issues and equipment failure to Engineering promptly and troubleshoots issues where possible.
  8. Ensures the station’s compliance with Emergency Alert System and other FCC requirements.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience and Education Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent, Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  2. Fluency in English.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  4. Minimum three years’ experience with IT or digital electronics systems, or in a television broadcast master control environment preferred.
  5. Proficiency with computers, servers, electronic content delivery, transmitters and other-broadcast-related equipment.
  6. Provable history of strong crisis management skills and of success working in a high-pressure environment.
  7. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as working independently both alone and in a team setting.

NEWS VIDEO EDITOR (Part-Time)

WATN-WLMT ABC affiliate in Memphis, TN, is seeking a video editor for its news department. The news video editor must be capable of editing all video elements of our newscasts.  The ideal candidate will be able to edit video from producer and reporter scripts with accuracy, consistency and meet strict deadlines.  He or she will have a solid grasp of the technical aspects of video editing while being able to shape sound and images to tell a compelling story.  He or she will also be responsible for tuning in live shots, making sure newscasts are recorded, and sending video to sister stations and the network, as needed. The news editor must also know how to post video to the station’s website. Previous non-linear editing experience and strong computer skills are required.  An editor should be conversant with all news editing equipment, audio recording equipment, routing switchers, microwave receive units, and be able to coordinate live shots.  Knowledge of Canopus Edius and the Bit Central digital news content delivery system is a plus.

NEWS PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (Part Time)

WATN/WLMT, the ABC/CW affiliate in Memphis, Tennessee is seeking a Studio Camera Operator/Video Editor. Duties will include operating studio camera in a high-pressure live news environment and be able to work under the directions of the Director to compose and frame shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses and camera settings to achieve the effects sought. 

Operating studio teleprompter system, maintaining a clean and operational studio, including maintaining lighting, cameras, and sets,  Must be able to  perform other responsibilities as assigned. This position also requires coordinating with the audio engineer to maintain microphone and headset systems, maintain a clean and operational studio, and be able to pull and distribute scripts to necessary news staff.  This position will also include editing video.  This position requires the ability to read and understand editing instructions as well as uploading and downloading video. 

The Camera Operator/Video Editor must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, and must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.  This position will require some flexibility including weekends and the ability to be on call for special news events. 6 months to 1 year production experience preferred.  Please apply here.

Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for writing, shooting and editing news image campaigns and proof-of-performance promotions. Create and produce promotional spots for all web platforms. Create compelling and innovative graphics that command attention for news promotions and the station brand.  This position is also responsible for dubbing and transferring commercial spots for playback on air.

Must be a creative and conceptional writer. Experience editing in Adobe Premiere is required. Must have extensive experience with After Effects and Photoshop. Must have ability to edit using non-linear editing software and have experience with graphic design. Please be able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure. Candidate must be a good communicator, organized and most importantly a team player.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a broadcast television promotions producer.
