MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Grizz Nation: are you ready? It’s NBA Draft night, and it’s a big one for the Memphis Grizzlies.
The team will make its highest draft pick in a decade at no. 2. They last drafted that high (also no. 2) in 2009.
The team is widely expected to draft Murray State point guard Ja Morant as the point guard of the future, especially now after Wednesday’s trade of 12-year veteran Mike Conley.
Fans hope Morant can be a future franchise cornerstone, alongside fellow 19-year-old Jaren Jackson Jr., who was an all-NBA rookie this past season. Morant, the 6-foot-3 point guard, averaged 25 points, 10 assists and six rebounds at Murray State.
Draft watch parties are planned for FedExForum, The Bluff, and elsewhere.
Local 24 News will have complete coverage Thursday night from FedExForum. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for fans, with the draft kicking off on the Grizzlies main HD video display at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the general public and will end after the final selection of the first round.
