MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – In this week’s edition of Doc’s Dissection, Local 24 Sports Director Doc Holliday dissects Jae Crowder’s game-winning three at the buzzer giving the Memphis Grizzlies their first win of the season and sending Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets home unhappy.
Now, this was a designed play. Solomon Hill with the inbounds pass to Crowder. Crowder with the perfect bounce ball to rookie Ja Morant, Crowder leading Morant, allowing him to continue to pick up speed as he races down the court.
Now the nets, figuring Ja is going to take the last shot because he had been balling –and he probably would have– but they double-team him.
So what he does, goes behind the back, gets some space, hits a trailing Crowder, Crowder already ready to shoot, but check out the rookie Morant.
Ja sets a quick screen on the Nets’ defender, giving Crowder an even clearer look.
