MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Hundreds of kids are better prepared for the upcoming school year thanks to a local church.
Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church held its annual back to school health fair Saturday morning.
Students could get everything they need for the start of the school year, like health screenings and school supplies.
Shelby County Schools officials were also there offering on-site registration.
“That’s what it’s all about. In the grand scheme of things in this country, this is one tiny blip. But if it continues to grow, and it just, it makes you do one little thing for that student fixing to go back to school. It matters to that one kid,” said Carrie Jernigan.
Others in the community, including churches and business owners, are now helping out with donations, haircuts, eye exams, and school supplies.
They’ll host another event to give it all away in a couple of weeks.
