MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Memphis Board of Adjustments said no to Richard Pearce’s request for a permit to dump construction debris into a former mining pit in northeast Memphis.
People who live in that area say he’s been dumping there illegally for months. Shelby County issued a stop work order in February, but that hasn’t stopped the dump trucks.
The 71-acre site is just feet from a lake that empties into the Wolf River and is only separated by a levee that has been breached.
Pearce has four months to repair the levee and pay for soil testing to determine if any dumping was harmful.
