MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through 9:00am Sunday for the following counties:

In Arkansas: Poinsett, Mississippi
In Tennessee: Dyer

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 9:00am Sunday for the following counties:

In Arkansas: Cross, St. Francis, Lee, Crittenden
In Tennessee: Shelby, Tipton, Lauderdale, Fayette, Haywood, Crockett, Hardeman, Madison
In Mississippi: DeSoto, Tunica

Counties under the warning could see up to 0.25″ of ice and 1-2″ of snow and sleet. Roads are expected to be treacherous, especially secondary and rural roads.

Counties under the advisory are looking at the possibility of a light glaze of ice overnight due to freezing rain with a little bit of snow and sleet accumulating on top of it. Most areas are looking at less than an inch of accumulation, but it looks like it will be enough to cause slick and hazardous roads heading into Sunday morning.

Rain is expected to turn into a wintry mix of freezing rain, snow, and sleet in Memphis between 10:00pm and midnight. This will continue overnight before turning to light snow by early Sunday morning. This is a quick moving system and any winter weather should be wrapped up by late Sunday morning.

A light glaze of ice will be possible for areas along and north of I-40 overnight. Areas in northeast Arkansas could see up to 0.1″ of ice. Most spots will see less than an inch of snow, but snowfall between 1-2″ will be possible across northeastern Arkansas and northwestern Tennessee. Roads will be hazardous and slick overnight, especially in Arkansas where we see a little more ice accumulation. Use extreme caution if driving.

Lows Saturday night will be around freezing in Memphis before warming into the upper 30s for Sunday afternoon. The start of the work week will be dry with highs warming into the 50s by Tuesday.
