WEB EXTRA: Beware Of Falling Trees After Heavy Rains In The Mid-South

The recent heavy rain in Memphis has caused big problems for trees in many neighborhoods.

An over-abundance of water can cause trees to rot and roots to weaken. As a result, a neighborhood can become a danger to residents.

Super saturated soil can cause falling trees to knock out powerlines, topple onto homes, and create traffic hazards.

Mike Mabe, a certified arborist, says that excessive water washes away soil and nutrients from roots, weakening the trees stability. When the big storms blow through, a lot of the big trees fall over because of weakened roots.

Mike also says that anytime you see a tree fall across a power line, you need to call MLGW immediately.
