Happy Halloween! As you get ready for a little fun Wednesday night, keep safety in mind.

You can expect to see many kids and families walking around neighborhoods looking for candy. But before you step out, here are some tips to make sure your Halloween experience is a safe one.

  • Parents are encouraged to purchase costumes that fit properly and that can be seen in the dark.
  • The popular hours of trick or treating tend to be between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., so if you are out driving around, be mindful of children and families crossing the street.
  • Authorities are encouraging folks to go to homes they are familiar with and watch out for sex offenders.

“When you go to a home, if you see the lights are out, don’t knock on that door. Sex offenders have been made aware they aren’t allowed to pass out candy during the Halloween festivities,” says Louis Brownlee, the Memphis Police Department Public Information Officer.

Rain is expected so many activities have been moved to a later date. For a list of events, CLICK HERE and HERE.
