Ahead of a busy travel season, check out ABC24's budget friendly Memorial Day weekend guide

AAA predicts more than 3.5 million people will take to the sky, while another 38 million people are expected to travel by car.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Air travel during this year's Memorial Day Weekend is expected to be some of the busiest for airlines according to AAA, predicting more than 3.5 million people will take to the sky, while another 38 million people are expected to travel by car.

Whether you are traveling to Memphis, or you simply decided that the best option is for you to stay here, the costs of a holiday weekend can add up quickly, so the ABC24 team has compiled a list of cheaper options for families.

Free Options

Music lovers can get their fill at the Overton Park Shell for its free concert series. Lukah is scheduled to perform May 24th at 7:30 p.m.

The Habert Porch Show will also offer a chance to take advantage of the Memphis Music Scene on May 25th starting at 5 p.m.

Witness the famous duck march at the Peabody hotel, this happens daily at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

$15 And Under Options

For a scenic view of downtown Memphis, you can grab a ride of the Main Street Trolley Line, tickets are just $1 a person a ride.

The Bluff City Fair will kick of May 24th at Tiger Lane and go through June 2nd. Tickets will range from $5 for kids 12 and under, and adults over 65, and $10 for everyone else.

If you are a sports fan, 901FC is facing off against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds May 26th. Tickets start off at $11.50

Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, Memphis Tourism has also kicked off its "Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown" campaign. Check out local deals and discounts from local restaurants, attractions and businesses.

“For even people that live here, maybe it’s not accessible to them to go a week, or two week long vacation like it is for some people, so there’s plenty to do, and see, and learn right here in Memphis,” said Meagan May, Backbeat Tours VP.
