Memphis Area School for the Deaf to hold 13th annual speakeasy

The event is a fundraiser for students at the school.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (MOSD), presented by the Pickler Companies, is having their 13th annual speakeasy at the Great Hall and Conference Center in Germantown.

The event, which will be held Saturday, on April 27 at 6:30 p.m., is a roaring-20s-themed party featuring live music, food and drinks from local vendors, casino gaming and auctions, all of which benefit the students at Memphis Oral School for the Deaf.

Andrea Baird, Chief Executive Officer for Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, said a key component of the night will be raising the paddle for their hearing heroes.

"That is going to be our pivotal time where we can really raise some funds...because, while we really want to provide as much as we can for our children, there's an expense to our service, so we need to fill the gap. So the fundraising we do is really important."

With funding, MOSB is able to provide free oral education, including a preschool program and a language development program for those who hear, to students with disabilities who need it.
