MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have released surveillance pictures in a shooting which injured a 12-year-old boy Monday night in Westwood.
MPD officers responded to the shooting Jan. 22, 2024, shortly before 11 p.m. at a convenience store in the 800 block of West Raines Road.
According to the police report, three people were heading inside the store when they encountered three others. A person from the first group allegedly knew one of the others from attending Westwood High School together and tried to shake hands.
That’s when the three suspects each pulled out weapons, police were told. The first group went back to their vehicle, but the three suspects began firing shots at them as they were driving off the parking lot. Police said a 12-year-old boy was shot in the right arm above the wrist.
Investigators said the victims drove south on Westmont Road to get away, and the suspects continued firing while running after them. Investigators said the suspects eventually took off westbound on West Raines Rd.
The boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition.
Officers said video footage of the incident captured the suspects who were allegedly responsible for the shooting.
Police said one suspect wore black hooded jacket and was armed with a dark-colored handgun. A second was wearing a black zip-up hooded jacket with a red and white stripe on the upper sleeve of each arm, a black shirt with white writing on the front, light-colored jeans, and black and white Nike shoes. They said suspect appeared to have “twists” in his hair and was armed with a black handgun.
