MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating two Waffle House robberies Friday morning and have connected a 17-year-old with one of them.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to the first robbery Dec. 29 just before 1:30 a.m. in the 8100 block of Varnavas Drive.

According to the police report, an employee said someone told her that three armed men in a black sedan were surrounding the employee’s vehicle. The employee then left to move her vehicle, leaving the back door open.

Another employee told officers that one suspect approached her inside the restaurant, making her hand over about $30 in tip money.

A third employee told police that three men came from the back of the restaurant, forcing her to hand over pocket money. The suspects then demanded she open the register while pointing weapons at her, taking about $400.

Police said video footage showed three men entering the business from the back. One wore a blue hoodie with gray sweatpants, another was wearing a black and gray hoodie with black sweatpants, and the third wore a black and red hoodie with black jeans. They all carried black handguns.

They were last seen riding a black sedan, police said. On Monday, Jan. 1, MPD said a 17-year-old was charged in connection with this robbery.

MPD responded to the second Waffle House robbery Dec. 29 around 4:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Sycamore View Road.

An employee told police that the suspect asked her if she could make change for a $2 bill. The suspect then became upset while the employee was examining the bill and pointed a handgun at her. The suspect forced the employee to pull out the cash drawer from a register and took the drawer before running away toward Shelby Oaks Drive.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents should call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
