MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The former Memphis officer who shot Martavious Banks and resignedhis position is now facing assault, DUI, and public intoxication charges.

Jamarcus Jeames was booked the same day Banks was released fromjail, nearly a year after Banks’ arrest for runningfrom police during a traffic stop in September 2018. Jeames resigned from MPD inFebruary 2019.

Jeames first court appearance on the charges wasThursday morning, where the case was continued until September 30th.

According to the affidavit, just after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, officers were flagged down by the clerk at the Circle K in the 1200 block of N. Germantown Road about a fight outside the store. The officers say they found a man bleeding from his head, and Jeames trying to leave in his car. The officer told Jeames to put it in park, and said Jeames got out of the car stumbling and speaking with slurred speech.

The victim told police Jeames had driven up and barely missed himas he sat on the curb in front of the store. He told officers when Jeames cameout of the store, they argued and Jeames grabbed him and tackled him.

Customers broke up the fight and police say Jeames was arrested.Police say they found two empty beer bottles under the driver seat, and an openbottle of rum about 1/3 empty and 3 unopened cans of beer in the rear passengerseat.

Police say Jeames complained of neck pain, and was taken to thehospital and treated before being booked.
