Man arrested after kidnapping woman, leading police on car chase into Memphis, police say

Southaven Police said the chase started when they received a call about a possible kidnapping at a hotel.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in police custody in Memphis after Southaven Police said he kidnapped a woman at a hotel, leading Memphis Police on a chase that ended in Whitehaven Thursday afternoon.

Southaven Police said they received a call around 12:15 p.m. Thursday that a man took a woman against her will from a hotel in Southaven. The man and the woman knew each other prior to the incident, police said.

A "be on the lookout" order was given for the man's car, which was later found by Memphis Police in Whitehaven, starting a chase. Memphis Police said the chase ended near the 1100 block of East Shelby Drive, and the man was taken into custody.

Southaven Police said the victim had minor injuries from an assault at the hotel, but refused to be treated by paramedics on the scene.

The man was charged with kidnapping and domestic violence.
