MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Charges have been dismissed against a man Memphis Police said shot another man to death in January 2024 during a fight over money in the Hyde Park area, according to court records.

The 42-year-old had been charged with second-degree murder, but that charge was dismissed March 1 due to "lack of prosecution" according to Shelby County court records. He still faces a petition to revoke a suspended sentence in a previous case.

MPD officers responded to the shooting just after noon Jan 2, 2024, in the 2300 block of Staten Ave. between Springdale and N. Hollywood. They found a man shot, and he died at the scene.

According to the police affidavit, the man who died was identified as Myrico Carr. Witnesses told police that the suspect, known as 'CC,' had shown up to collect money owed to him by Carr. They told investigators 'CC' had a gun and when the two men fought over it, Carr was shot.

The affidavit said the suspect turned himself in to police, and told investigators he asked Carr to pay him at least $20 of $50 Carr owed him, and Carr got angry. The suspect told police Carr  jumped him when he saw his gun, and the gun went off as the two wrestled over it.
