Woman killed, officer and 3 suspects injured after police chase in Whitehaven ends in crash

Officers say they were pursuing suspects who shot at police late Wednesday night.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), a Thursday chase in Whitehaven ended with a woman pedestrian dead and an officer, along with the three suspects police were chasing, injured.

Officers said they found a white Infiniti SUV with a broken rear passenger side window in the area of Castalia and Person. They said this was the car used by the suspects who shot at police late Wednesday night.

When police attempted to stop the car, it drove off. Officers said they pursued them into Whitehaven, and the car was occupied by three men. The car crashed into a parked car at Holmes near Farley. When hit, the parked car ran into a woman pedestrian, who was found dead at the scene, police said.

After the crash, the car kept driving before it crashed again, this time with an MPD squad car, police said.

Officers took the three men into custody. One was taken to Regional One in critical condition, while the other two were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition, police said.

An MPD officer was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to MPD.

Police said no charges were filed at the time. Friday, a 17-year-old teen and an 18-year-old man were charged with auto theft and intentionally evading arrest, and the adult was released from jail without bond Friday. We're working to learn if the teen is still in jail.
