Judge rules that former coach at center of grade changing scandal can have his job back

A judge ruled Tuesday a former Shelby County high school football coach fired during a grade changing scandal can have his job back.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A judge ruled Tuesday a former Shelby County high school football coach fired during a grade changing scandal can have his job back.

Teli White was fired as coach at Trezevant High when it was found several players’ grades were changed to make them eligible to play. White was suspended three years ago after a district investigation. He was fired a year later for the same offense.

White’s lawyer told Chalkbeat that the judge ruled SCS can’t use the same facts to issue a suspension and then later fire him.

An attorney for the school board said even if White didn’t change the grades, he still knew they were wrong.
