Bus crashes in West Memphis after driver has seizure on I-40 near Missouri Street, official says

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A Greyhound bus crashed into a guardrail Thursday morning in West Memphis on I-40 after the driver seemed to suffer a seizure, a West Memphis public official said.

The West Memphis Fire Department said the crash happened just after 8 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, along eastbound I-40 near Missouri Street. When they got there, crews said several people were getting out of the bus through the emergency window exits. 

WMFD said a total of 35 people were triaged at the scene by EMS, and 11 of those, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries.

The remaining 22 passengers were taken by A Marion School District bus to a temporary shelter at the Eugene Woods Civic Center in West Memphis. MATA brought the passengers the rest of the way to Memphis.
