Two Women Get Chance To Open Business

Inside a boutique At 9 on Main Street you’ll see rompers, jumpsuits, dresses, swimsuits and shoes! But, it would not have happened for these two young entrepreneurs without an opportunity from the city of Memphis.

“Downtown Commission had a post on Facebook, and I found it through somebody sharing it.  And, i was able to go put in an application, and they called us for an interview. And I came with a poster board and pictures, and dressed in my entire. And, they gave me an opportunity.  They called on Good Friday and told us that we got the store,” says Jessica Ballentine, J. Lykey’s Boutique.

Before, Jessica Ballentine just had an online business. She says this opportunity gives her a chance to prove she can be a vital part of Memphis’ economy with a little style and jazz!

“Memphis gave me the opportunity to grow my business, and for a first beginner it was a blessing to be able to do so.”

As Fashion Designer Donna Karan once said “it’s not just about dressing. It’s about addressing” the need to succeed in this case. And Ballentine says the city is helping her and other small businesses achieve their dream.
