Covington Police arrest Memphis suspect with 38 grams of meth, 100 ecstasy pills and more

COVINGTON, Tenn. — Covington Police said a 47-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after investigators recovered 38 grams of methamphetamine, 100 ecstasy pills and possible fentanyl rolled up in a $50 bill. A Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm was also recovered, they said.

The Covington/Tipton County Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) along with the sheriff's office swat and narcotics team received information that the suspect was en route from Memphis to the Mason area on Thursday, Jan. 25, according to the Covington Police Department (CPD). 

SWAT members were able to take Ravon S. Williams and his accomplice, 42-year-old Chandra L. Ayers into custody without incident, according to CPD. 

Ayers has been charged with Possession of Schedule I Narcotic w/Intent, Possession of Schedule II Narcotic w/Intent and Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Dangerous, according to CPD. CPD said Ayers is currently in the Tipton County jail under a $10,000 bond.

Ravon Williams has been charged with Possesion of Schedule I Narcotic w/Intent, Possession of Schedule II Narcotic w/Intent, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Driving on Revoked/Suspended License, according to CPD.

Investigators said they determined that Williams had a violent past history with convictions ranging from Solicitation of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault, according to CPD. 

After considering these factors and the threat this defendant poses to the safety of the public, Judge M.O. Eckel has set Ravon Williams' bond at $250,000, according to CPD. Both defendants are slated to appear in General Sessions Court on Feb. 16, 2024 at 9 a.m.

"This was great work by our Investigators and SWAT team" said Sheriff Shannon Beasley. "I am thankful that this was a safe and successful operation, especially after we found a violent felon with a firearm."
