Vacant house fire downtown spreads to church with no injuries, Memphis Fire Department says

MFD said that they responded to 229 Leath Street towards 9 a.m. to find a vacant house where fire was in all divisions of the structure.

A house fire that was started with an incendiary cause spread from a house in the downtown area to a church on Saturday, according to Memphis Fire officials.

Memphis Fire Department (MFD) said that they responded to 229 Leath Street towards 9 a.m. to find a vacant house where fire was in all divisions of the structure. 

The origin of the fire was multiple points in the rear interior of the dwelling, according to MFD. They said the total building loss was $45,000. There was vinyl siding damage on the northside wall of 219 Leath Street, according to MFD.

The church next door at 265 Leath Street — Lake Grove Baptist Church — had vinyl siding damage on the southside and eastside wall, according to MFD.

MFD said there were no injuries reported.
