Inmate dies inside North Mississippi jail, deputies say they don't suspect foul play

Lafayette County Sheriff's deputies said they found the 53-year-old woman unresponsive inside her cell.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss — A woman is dead inside a North Mississippi jail, and two days after her death, jailers say they don't suspect foul play.

The Lafayette County, Mississippi, Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday, Dec. 12, they found 53-year-old Marie Parkman unresponsive inside her cell at the Lafayette County Detention Center. Deputies said they "immediately" began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, but ultimately she was pronounced dead.

Deputies said they secured the area until investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation got to the scene to take over the investigation. 

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office said they don't suspect foul play, but they're still actively investigating, and won't release any more information.
