Many people came together to create a supportive environment in the wake of negative surroundings. The camp good grief 5k race and 1 mile fun run took place Saturday morning.

The 5k benefits Camp Good Grief, the mid-south’s first children’s bereavement camp.

Saturday’s event included moon bounces, face painting and games for kids and food of course.

Every finisher of the 5k received a medal for their efforts.

“The kids come out. If it’s a parent or if it’s a sibling that’s passed away, they’re allowed to come and see the grief is not necessarily a bad thing, but grief is a natural process,” says Michael Pugh.

The goal of the annual bereavement camp is to give area children, ages 6 to 12, an enjoyable and supportive environment where they can freely express their feelings about the loss of a loved one.

The camp is made possible through a grant from Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, individual donations, and partnerships with local businesses.
