The Mississippi RiverKings will have a new look when they hit the ice for the 2017-18 season thanks to three new jersey designs. In front of a crowd at Landers Center and streaming live online, RiverKings General Manager David Schmoll unveiled three new sweaters including a dark, light, and alternate color. All three versions of the jersey feature shoulder patches of the team’s parent company, Maddox Foundation, sublimated crowns throughout various striping, a memorial for Noah Costa – the late son of team President Robin Hurdle – and sponsorship patch for Chick-fil-A Southaven on the rear belt line.

First to be introduced was the team’s dark jersey which will serve as the road sweater until January 1, when it will become team’s home jersey in compliance with SPHL requirements. The primarily black jersey features the full Mississippi RiverKings crest centered on the front, highlighted by wide gold stripes on the upper sleeves and beltline. The gold striping is complete with sublimated crowns repeating throughout. In addition to the gold striping, a single black stripe and single white stripe also cross the sleeves near the mid point, as well as the belt line. Jersey numbers are black when seen on the arms as they rest in the field of goal, and white on the back where they contrast the black jersey. Player names can be seen in gold above the white numbering.

Due to the widespread popularity from last year’s gold alternate jersey, the RiverKings opted to keep the color for this year’s light sweater.

“We got a great response last year from the gold jersey that we wore as our third jersey, so when we were going through and making the jersey design, definitely, we wanted to keep a gold jersey,” said Schmoll.

Gold, serving as the home uniform until January 1, features the alternate RiverKings partial-M crest, along with wide white stripes on the arms and belt. The white stripes carry-through with the small crown sublimation and adorned with thinner gold and black stripes. Player names and numbers are black throughout the jersey.

In a departure from the team’s standard color scheme, a cream colored jersey was introduced as the alternate for 2017/18. “It was something that we had talked about for a couple of years, and it felt like this was the right time” Schmoll revealed. The mostly cream colored sweater features the team name “RiverKings” written in block capital letters diagonally across the chest while a gold yoke hosts the shoulder patches and sits a top a thin black stripe. The belt line comes equipped with a gold stripe sandwiched between alternating black and cream stripes, while the player’s names and numbers are black in all locations.

The jerseys, produced by OT Sports Industries, Inc, will be the standard sweaters worn by the team, though Schmoll also announced the dates and themes for this season’s specialty jersey nights. OT Sports Industries, Inc in conjunction with the RiverKings, will be producing the specialty jerseys which will be released by the team at a later date. Those specialty jersey nights include Military Night on November 18, 60’s Night on December 29, a to-be-announced theme on January 26, Puck Cancer Night on February 24, and St. Patricks Night on March 10.

Full video of the press conference as well as digital mock-ups of the jerseys can be found on the team’s Facebook page. The new uniforms can be seen in action this coming season which 2017-18 begins October 20, when the RiverKings host the Knoxville IceBears at Landers Center.
