Burglaries Near The Greenline

Memphis police are on the lookout for the person or persons behind a string of burglaries in recent days along the Shelby Farms Greenline in East Memphis. Residents reported several break-ins in the High Point Terrace and Hedge Hills Neighborhoods.

Memphis police aren’t sure if the same person is linked to all of the burglaries, but cameras caught the person behind one of them.

“I guess I was kind of shocked.” The man, who didn’t want his face or name shown, came home to an unwelcome surprise Monday during his lunch break.

“My roommate’s room was gone through, my daughter’s room was gone through, and my room had been gone through.”

MPD said the suspect, in his early to mid-twenties, ransacked the victim’s home on Hilldale Avenue. The guy went through a safe and took off with a birth certificate and social security card, but not much else.

“They are just looking for guns, that’s one of the things that have been stolen.”

This victim isn’t alone. Since last Monday, crime tracking shows six reported burglaries in the concentrated area near the Shelby Farms Greenline, where a thief could potentially blend in after breaking in.

“I think it’s kind of crazy, l think they are using the Greenline as their avenue, that’s why they aren’t taking any big TVs,” said the victim. “If someone comes home and he does have a gun or something like that, he’s there at the same time, he could be dangerous or something like that, so definitely hope they catch the guy.”

The Greenline crossing at Graham, as well as others, have mounted MPD Skywatch cameras.
