MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) Local 24 News is celebrating our parent company’s 23rd anniversary with the “Nexstar Founder’s Day of Caring.”

That’s when Local 24 News, and our sister stations all across the country, volunteer and give back to their communities.

This year, we’ve paired up with SCS’s Brownsville Road Elementary in Raleigh.

Dozens of Local 24 News employees are rolling up their sleeves and getting to work fixing up the school in an effort to make a difference in the lives of the children who will return to the classrooms in August.

Approximately 73% of the school’s children come from under-served areas around the school. The principal sends brown paper bags home with the students who face food insecurity each weekend. In other words, they wouldn’t eat on Saturday and Sunday without food assistance.

In addition, the principal also bought a washer and dryer for the school. The staff washes children’s clothes for the parents who don’t have the means to send their children to school with clean clothing. They have even started a small clothing closet at the school to help.
