FedEx Employee Shot And Killed At South Memphis Gas Station

A FedEx employee shot and killed while sitting in her car has been identified. Royces Givens, 32, was the city’s 182nd homicide this year.

It happened shortly before 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Roma Mart gas station at East Mallory and South Lauderdale in south Memphis.

According to police, Givens was sitting in her car, parked at the gas station, when a man shot and killed her, then ran from the scene.

The people we talked to say the gas station is their local hangout, and say the victim they knew as “Cici” didn’t deserve what happened to her.

“I’m actually full time at FedEx. I’m at work from 11 o’clock. At 11 o’clock she was at work,” says the woman’s co-worker.

A shaken up FedEx employee spoke to Local 24 shortly after his coworker was murdered while sitting in her car.  “She was to herself. Hard worker. Good spirit,” he says. “It’s senseless. Why we out here killing each other like that.”

FedEx released the following statement:

“Our thoughts and concerns go out to the family and friends of our team member involved in this incident. We are cooperating fully with investigating authorities at this time.”

“I worked at FedEx before and when I’d get off work in the morning at 4:30 on the midnight shift I’d usually come to this store every day too,” says Damian Slaughter.

Folks who live in south Memphis say this may not be the best part of town, but it’s their home, and they want it to be safe.

“It breaks my heart too that these type of things going on,” says Slaughter.

The motive in this case is still unclear. Police have been collecting evidence and talking to witnesses, and searching for the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
