'Your vehicle could stall while driving': Recall letters sent to Honda & Acura owners. No fix is available right now.

The potential problem is with the fuel pump module, which can cause the vehicle to stall while driving.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Letters are hitting the mailboxes of Honda and Acura owners, warning them of a recall on their vehicle and that the part to fix it is unavailable. The fuel pump module, can over time, deform and cause the engine to stall while driving. When the parts come in, the fix will be free at your local dealership. But the letter asks for the owner's patience, because the parts may not be available until the fall of 2024.

Why would a manufacturer tell you about a possible major issue and then not have the part to fix it?

"Unfortunately, this has been a problem since we had the Takata airbag thing a decade ago. The automakers are not always prepared with a solution as soon as they identify the problem. When an automaker discovers that there is a problem with a feature with safety or emissions, they have to immediately report it to the Highway Traffic Safety Administration," said Patrick Olsen of Carfax.

Altogether, there are 2.6 million vehicles impacted by this recall, 21 different models from 2017 to 2020.

It's important to note there have been no reported crashes or injuries related to this issue. Olsen says, if you experiencing some kind of fuel pump issue, you need to drive directly to a dealership.

"If you're driving your Honda and you've not had problems with stalling or not getting enough fuel to your engine, for me I'd keep driving it. I wouldn't let the concept of potential failure years from now keep you from driving today," said Olsen.

Even if your vehicle isn't on the list, Olsen says every car owner should be checking their VIN on-site to see if there are any open recalls on their vehicle.
