A $250-million expansion is planned for Southland Gaming and Racing in West Memphis. It’s the largest tourism investment ever in the history of Arkansas.
Southland is adding a new casino complex with state-of-the-art games, culinary program, and a signature high-rise hotel. It will add up to 400 more jobs to the already 800 on the payroll.
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson says it’s expected to be a big boost for the entire state.
“It’s going to create permanent jobs and also draw people here. So, it is an economic boost. Ancillary jobs created, going to have the supply chain that I’m so interested in. That businesses will come here because they will be in the supply chain of Southland. Obviously, tourism is our second leading industry. This supports that tourism industry,” says Gov. Hutchinson.
Governor Hutchinson expects the changes to give Tunica casinos more competition.
