Teenager arrested after breaking into home, Covington Police say

COVINGTON, Tenn. — Covington Police said they have arrested a 14-year-old after investigating and matching them with a suspect that broke into a house in the 200 block of Highway 179.

Officers said they responded ON April, 9, shortly after 4 p.m. to a call about a potential burglary. A complainant told police it looked like her back door was "kicked in," according to the Covington Police Department (CPD). 

Officers said they saw the back door with a split door frame and the dead bolt set. The complainant told police her Ruger AR-15 and two fully loaded magazines were missing, according to CPD. 

Through this person's camera security system and saw a man approaching her backyard wearing a ski mask before this person moved the camera out of the frame, according to CPD. 

Moments later this suspect was seen shuffling from the house, according to CPD. 

The complainant told police she recognized the suspect and was able to provide information to identify him, according to CPD. 

Then, officers surrounded the area in the 800 block of Barlow Avenue and a drone was deployed since this particular suspect was known to run away when approached during an investigation, CPD said.

After following up at multiple residences, police found the 14-year-old, interviewing multiple young people in the process, according to CPD.

During the investigation, officers recovered clothing matching the description in the video surveillance footage, according to CPD.

The juveniles were detained and transported to the Covington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit for questioning, CPD said. The 14-year-old suspect was then arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, according to CPD.
