Teenager charged with first-degree murder after firing shots at Lyft vehicle, Memphis Police say

Officers said three different victims said that a person shot at them.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 17-year-old now faces three charges of attempted first-degree murder after he reportedly fired shots at a Lyft vehicle, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Officers said they responded near 7:30 p.m. on Friday. March 1 to an aggravated assault call at 4415 Double Tree Road.

Officers said three different victims said that a person shot at them. One of the victim's reportedly told police that the suspect is a friend of her child's father.

She reportedly said that she was involved in a relationship with a separate involved party and that he has a new girlfriend.

This victim reportedly made a status on Facebook and the suspect thought the status was about this person's new girlfriend, according to MPD.

A victim told police that the suspect made a comment on her post stating that he believed she needed to stop talking about this new girlfriend. The victim and the suspect reportedly had a verbal altercation regarding the incident and the suspect threatened to shoot the victim, according to MPD.

The victim stated that she and another victim got an Uber ride from the third victim from their home, according to MPD.

Officers said the first victim told them that all the victims arrived at the suspect's location and sat in front of the suspect's house for about three minutes until he walked outside. Then, the suspect came outside with a firearm and made verbal threats to them, according to MPD.

This suspect fired at them as they drove away, continuing to fire shots as he ran after the vehicle on foot, according to MPD.

The third victim told police that she picked up the other victims and took them to Double Tree Road. She also said she parked in front of a house waiting for the other two to get out of the car when she saw a man standing in the driveway firing shots at them, according to MPD.

The third victim said she left northbound to get away from the suspect and the other victims were still inside the car. No one was struck by gunfire there, but the second victim suffered from an abrasion on her right shoulder because of broken glass, MPD said.

The Toyota Camry the third victim was driving was struck on the rear window, the rear passenger-side window and the rear passenger side door, according to MPD. MFD units made the scene to offer aid to these victims, but they denied medical care.

Officers said they found the suspect at the Double Tree address. He was reportedly detained and transported to felony response for further investigation. The victims were also transported to give a statement there, according to MPD.

The person who was a separate involved party with a new girlfriend was at the scene at Double Tree when this happened, according to MPD. They told police that she did not witness the incident and that she only heard gunshots, according to MPD.

They told police that their 2003 Chrysler Concord was struck during the incident. The third victim's Toyota Camry was towed to the city lot by choice towing with a hold for VCU, according to MDP.
