MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)– A giraffe calf was born Tuesday at the Memphis Zoo, the second one to be born there in three days.

Mom Angela Kate gave birth around one Tuesday afternoon. Zookeepers say it appears the baby is healthy and is nursing without any problems, but they will give the calf an exam Wednesday afternoon just to make sure. The zoo will announce the name and gender in the coming days.

Wednesday, zookeepers announced that a giraffe born April 6th to mom Wendy is a boy, and his name is Kiburi, which means “precocious” in Swahili. Mom Wendy and her baby are currently on exhibit.

These latest births bring the Memphis Zoo’s giraffe herd to 11. Both calves born this week have the same father.
