Shocking new information on drug charges facing a Tipton County Second Grade teacher.
Tipton County investigators busted Jaime and James Byram for receiving and distributing Ecstasy, LSD, marijuana, Xanax and Butane Hash Oil.
Authorities also found more than $20,000 in cash and an investigation revealed the couple was packaging and selling drugs out of their home. Tipton County District Attorney Mark Davidson says this operation has been going on since November of 2017.
According to an affidavit, the Byrams admitted to receiving and selling marijuana out of their home, on Drummonds Road. Doug Justice lives next door and had no idea this was happening.
“No, you just don’t think that and unfortunately it’s getting to be more and more in this country,” said Doug Justice of Munford.
Davidson says investigators found 20 doses of Ecstasy, LSD, 5.5 pounds of marijuana, 10 doses of Xanax and 138 grams hash oil in their home.
Tipton County Superintendent William Bibb says Jaime Byram has been teaching at Munford Elementary for 13 years. She is now suspended without pay pending the outcome of this investigation.
“The school board has been notified. It’s also correct that there’s no indication that this activity took place at the school,” Davidson explained.
The affidavit further states James Byram told authorities he sent the money to purchase the marijuana through Walmart or the U.S. Postal Service. It also states Byram would tell his wife what was need and she would package the drugs in the garage.
“I feel sorry for the relatives, I feel sorry for the kids. We just don’t know what’s going to happen,” Justice said.
Investigators say during the time of their arrest the couple’s kids were not at home. Local 24 News learned they are now in custody of other family members.
They are being held in the Tipton County Jail with $50,000 bonds each.
