The staff at Tom Lee Park unveiled a new vision for the Downtown Memphis landmark on Saturday.

The public release event at Beale Street Landing showed the redesign splits the 30-acre park into four different zones.

The makeover will give the visitors a new welcome gateway to the city and a central area for relaxation and play. It will also bring networking of open spaces for music festivals like Memphis In May. There will also be a nature area at the southern tip of the park.

George Abbott, the Memphis River Parks Director of External Affairs, said, “The river is our greatest natural asset you now its why the city is here, and we need to make a park that reflects that natural beauty, so we’ve produced a design which is built on what Memphians have told us they wanted.”

The goal of the new design is to bring people to the park year-round.

The project will start in June and should be completed by the end of 2020.
