Two Dead In Murder/Suicide At Arkansas Maybelline Plant

UPDATE 2/16/2018:

L’Oreal USA officials have released a statement about the Valentine’s Day murder-suicide at its cosmetics plant on Maybelline Road.

The statement released on Friday afternoon reads:
“We have shared our deepest condolences with the family following the tragedy involving two Staffmark employees who were assigned to work in our North Little Rock distribution center. We take great pride and effort in creating a safe and healthy environment for everyone who enters our facilities. We are confident in the procedures we have in place, which are developed through adherence to regulatory guidance, listening to our employees, and consulting with authorities and leading experts. We will continue to take all of these steps as we review this situation.”

The North Little Rock Police Department said on Thursday that Jim Gilot, 32, shot and killed co-worker Chasity Cannady, 19, as she sat inside her car in a parking lot. He then turned the gun on himself. Both were dead at the scene when officers arrived.

Police have also said that detectives have determined Gilot and Cannady were not involved in any type of romantic relationship. They were simply co-workers that worked in the same area of the plant.

KARK learned on Friday that Gilot had a criminal background. In 2013 after getting arrested for impersonating an officer in Nebraska the charges were dropped, according to NBC affiliate WOWT.

Gilot was arrested in Benton County last year on obstruction charges. An arrest report states that deputies found him in a vehicle that looked like a patrol car.
