Two Memphis juveniles, charged in separate murder cases, both captured, U.S. Marshals say

Two 17-year-old boys wanted for separate murders in 2023 and 2024 were reportedly captured by U.S. Marshals within two hours.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — U.S. Marshals said that two 17-year-olds, wanted for separate murders in 2023 and 2024 were captured on Thursday May 2, 2024, within two hours.

The first murder occurred on Dec. 14, 2023, according to U.S. Marshals. A man was found shot to death at the 1900 block of S. Third Street in Memphis, they said.

According to U.S. Marshals, a juvenile petition for first degree murder and aggravated robbery was issued on Jan. 20, 2024, for the arrest of the teenager involved.

The second murder occurred Feb. 13, 2024, when another man was robbed and shot to death at the 2000 block of Philsar Street in Memphis.

U.S. Marshals said a juvenile petition for first degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault was issued on Feb. 26, 2024 for the arrest of the teenager involved.

On May 2, around 10:30 a.m., the U.S. Marshals "Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force" reportedly caught up with the alleged killer of a man at a residence on the 1400 block of Roberts Road in Memphis. 

With the assistance of the Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office "Fugitive Apprehension Teams," marshals said they took the suspect into custody without incident.

Shortly after, at 12 p.m., the U.S. Marshals TRVFTF, MPD and SCSO fugitive teams went to a residence at the 6400 block of Gillespie Road, they said. Marshals said they then took the alleged murderer of Cornelius Bennett into custody without incident.
