Memphis police are searching for a man they say robbed a woman at gunpoint.
It happened just before four o’clock this morning on G. E. Patterson and Front Street in downtown Memphis.
The woman told police she was walking by the 30 block of G. E. Patterson when a man with a gun approached her grabbed her purse and took off running.
There are townhouses and condos being built all along Front Street.
They’re about a block from many of the popular hang outs like the Blue Monkey.
The arcade restaurant and also Ernestine & Hazels which is where the victim told police she had been just before she was robbed near this corner.
“We were walking the streets four hours before,” said Peter Fraser.
“It’s not something you want to hear at all and it does make you feel a little bit unsafe,” Sarah Fraser said.
Peter and Sarah Fraser moved here from Nashville a little more than a month ago.
“Obviously you pick a place like this because it gets a reputation and still it just makes you extra safe,” said Peter.
When the couple heard a woman had been robbed at gunpoint just steps away from their home they were a little rattled but say they still feel safe here.
“You can try to keep a place as safe as you can but sometimes stuff happens.”
The couple said to stay safe you have to be smart.
“As a female too…I’d rather not walk alone at night so you just gotta be really careful no matter where you are,” Sarah said.
“You don’t want to blame the person that happened to. You wouldn’t wish that upon anybody but you just gotta be smart about what you’re doing,” said Peter.
The victim wasn’t hurt during the robbery.
She told police the man grabbed her purse and ran westbound on G. E. Patterson.
