A North Carolina school is closed after a microburst blew out a wall and part of its roof.

A North Carolina school is closed after a microburst blew out a wall and part of its roof.

It happened Monday in Union Intermediate School’s Gymnasium. Cameras captured the moment the wall came crashing down.

Students can be seen running away moments before debris flew into the gym.

Some of them were taken to a hospital for evaluation, but they have all been released. Engineers deemed the rest of the school safe and students are expected to return Thursday.

A microburst is a column of sinking air, sometimes called a downdraft. They are produced by thunderstorms.
